3 Things That Can Help Manage Schizophrenia Symptoms

Three weeks ago, we wrote to the public about a few things that can help people living with Bipolar Disorder. If you have not read it, you can check it out here. We’ve gotten positive responses from the community, and we want to keep the wheel moving and help out all of our mental health community.

This week, we’ve put together a list of things that we thought would be helpful to people diagnosed with Schizophrenia. If you don’t know what Schizophrenia is, NIMH has it defined as “a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves.” While this list isn’t as comprehensive as our last article, it certainly contains very helpful information.

1.)   1.) Take Your Prescribed Medication.

Taking your prescribed medication regularly is not only extremely helpful, it is an absolute necessity. The medication helps regulate the chemical imbalances in your brain, and helps you manage your symptoms.

2.)   2.) Stay Away From Illegal Drugs.

There is a strong correlation between taking illegal drugs, specifically marijuana, and developing Schizophrenia-like symptoms (if you would like a comprehensive list of scientific data, leave a comment below!). Simply put, if you are at risk for being diagnosed with Schizophrenia, taking illegal drugs can greatly increase that risk.

3.)   3.) Get Exercise

In a recent study found here, researchers found that aerobic exercise can reduce symptoms of Schizophrenia. Getting exercise can help with all sorts of mental illnesses, as it helps the body and the mind.

If you would like more information on how to manage your symptoms of Schizophrenia, you can leave a comment, write on our wall on our Facebook Page found here, or send an email to We hope this helps!
